About this video
Veterans with spinal cord injuries lost access to critical medical care during the CV-19 pandemic, while VX mandates threatened the specialized nursing workforce they depended on.
Katelyn Johnson, RN, former Director of Medical Services for Paralyzed Veterans of America, testified that CV-19 restrictions severely disrupted medical care for catastrophically injured veterans.
She reported that VA specialty referrals dropped more than 70% in April 2020, clinics stopped providing in-person care, and VX mandates placed additional pressure on an already understaffed healthcare system.
Johnson argued that veterans paid the price for policies supposedly designed to protect them and called for a congressional investigation.
September 28, 2026: U.S. Senator Ron Johnson led a roundtable discussion titled “COVID-19 Hospital Protocols: Real Stories from Real People.”
