In BC, Kristin Logan says she received information about MAID — medical assistance in dying — before she had even seen an oncologist for her stage-four ovarian cancer (very common in British Columbia Health Care) As her condition worsened and treatment stalled, she fled Canada for the United States, where she says she was finally treated with urgency. She says her cancer treatment referral was later found to have been lost, and she only discovered the problem after calling BC Cancer herself. “I am not exaggerating when I say if I had left myself in their hands, I would be dead.” Kristin says that once she entered the U.S. system, the difference was immediate: “I feel seen, heard, and I feel a sense of urgency that said, ‘Your life is important.’” She is now documenting her treatment and speaking publicly about cancer-care delays, including stories she says she has received from other Canadians who were offered MAID while waiting for treatment. “Canada is a first-world country.
