"SIDS" case: Michael Belkin's five-week-old daughter died about 13 hours after receiving a hepatitis B VX in 1998. According to Belkin, the medical examiner initially told the family that their daughter’s brain was swollen, but weeks later ruled the death as SIDS and told him they had “changed our minds” about the brain swelling. Belkin says an outside pathologist working with the family believed officials “just want to make this go away.” Belkin later testified at congressional hearings on the hepatitis B VX and says mercury was subsequently removed from the hepatitis B VX.
